Once we cracked into the engine of our test Harley to swap the blowers, we realized
why oil separators are such a popular modification for the Lightning and Harley trucks.
Our Harley was literally dripping with oil from the throttle body. When the blower was off,
we had an oil-soaked intercooler and oil-basted blower internals. Simply put, oil in the
intake is a bad thing!  Not only will it get in the combustion chamber and produce that
nasty blue smoke on startup, but it will also significantly decrease the octane rating of
your fuel, causing detonation.
We went looking for the best oil separator on the market for these trucks, and we
found Vince Granier from L&S Automotive.  Vince is a Lightning enthusiast who
immediately recognized the problem with oil getting into the intake track, and he set out
to do something about it.
    During Vince's development of this product, he has learned quite a bit about the need
for the oil separator. It is most
needed to minimize oil ingestion
during WOT and high-rpm
deceleration--times when the
supercharger suction is at its
greatest. Over time, this results
in the intercooler sludge and
intake track buildup we saw in
our own Harley.
    Vince's oil separator works
by creating additional crankcase
evacuation during boost when
blow-by is at its greatest. He
uses a custom-built return system
that incorporates the truck's
stock PVC without the bypass loop.
The L&S Automotive oil separator
kit allows crankcase evacuation to
happen, and at the same time the oil
that is trapped is returned to the engine where it belongs.  Vince's system takes advantage
of the simple fact that you can have crankcase evacuation at all times, provided you have 
a solution for trapping the additional oil that will be pulled through the system because of
the bypass elimination.
    Vince has tested this system for over two years on his own truck, with positive results.
After working with him and testing this product on our own truck, we can emphatically say
that ever Lightning/Harley owner needs one of these systems. We now consider it an
obligatory piece of any functional Lightning that is well cared for and loved.
